1st Provincial Workshop on Environmental Awareness held in Sh. Milandhoo

The first of a series of one day workshops on environmental awareness for students was conducted yesterday in Shaviyani Milandhoo by the Ministry of Housing, Transport and Environment.

The workshop was held at Milandhoo School and was participated by 150 students from the islands of Milandhoo, Feevah, Narudhoo and Foakaidhoo.

The objective of this workshop was to raise awareness amongst school children on climate change and its impacts, Maldives becoming a carbon neutral nation, the celebration of International Year of Biodiversity in the Maldives, environmental laws and regulations, environmental conservation and how they (the students) could actively get involved in protection and preservation of environment through various school environment club activities.

The chief guest for the occasion was Mr. Abdulla Ahmed, the principal of Milandhoo school, who addressed the students at the opening session and also presented all the participating schools with certificates of participation as well as awareness kits prepared by the ministry at the end of the workshop.
